Emilio Ambasz presented his design for Madrid

At Madrid City Hall, in the presence of Mayor Ana Botella, Emilio Ambasz presented his design for the MAADU (Museum of Art, Architecture, Design and Urbanism), to be carried out by the Argentinian architect’s foundation on Paseo del Prado 30, close to the CaixaForum, the Prado, the Thyssen and the Reina Sofía. On the lot, ceded by City Hall for a period of 75 years, currently stands an abandoned municipal facility that, emitting asbestos and short of meeting current safety regulations, is expected to be demolished. The project takes off from the ‘green over gray’ idea of introducing foliage into the heart of the city, and thus proposes a building with plant facades that act as natural mechanisms of thermal control and a roof, green as well, that will collect rainwater. The MAADU will have 3,672 square meters of floor space and five levels, and the top floor will feature a restaurant accessible directly from the street. With a budget of 10 million euros, the Emilio Ambasz Foundation will take care of design and construction as well as management of the museum, which will include a program of grants for young architects.
