Diller Scofidio + Renfro to build Zaryadye Park in Moscow
Diller Scofidio + Renfro
Diller Scofidio + Renfro has won the competition to build Zaryadye Park in Moscow, close to Red Square and the Kremlin. The Russian firm TPO Reserve and the Dutch partnership MVRDV came in second and third. The historically important district of Zaryadye has been empty since the demolition there, in 2006, of the 3,000-room Hotel Rossiya, on the spot of which Norman Foster’s 600-meter Russia Tower was to rise, a project eventually canceled. Conceived as a landscape organized in terraces and combining technologies to create artificial microclimates, the design of the New York studio presents four typical Russian regions: the tundra, the steppe, the forest, and the taiga. The park will be completed in 2016.
