A new series of photographs by Yueqi Jazzy Li shows the theater commissioned by the state-owned conglomerate China Poly Group to Tadao Ando Architect & Associates. Located in the Jiading district, 20 kilometers from the center of Shanghai, the rectangular construction rises between two artificial lakes and beside another building designed by the Japenese firm, a tower of mixed uses, with hotels, offices, and retail spaces. Inaugurated at the close of 2014, it presents a box of reinforced concrete with a gridded glazed skin, and it is perforated by steel tunnels clad with aluminum panels that resemble wood in finish. The sculptural volume contains the main auditorium, seating 1,466, and two partly open-air smaller theaters.
