Harquitectes

Thermodynamic matter

Few studios have fared better in reading the panorama of a profession in times of crisis, working with limited budgets, often far from the big cities and with programs that require a genuine dose of sustainability. Indeed, for Harquitectes – established in 2000 by David Lorente, Josep Ricard, Xavier Ros, and Roger Tudó – necessity is virtue, and it is the key to an aesthetic of formal moderation and powerful materiality that connects architecture to its context, as shown by the three works presented here: a winery in Tarragona, a house in Castelldefels, another one in Igualada, and the extension of the MACBA in Barcelona, won by competition with Christ & Gantenbein.
