Renzo Piano, art gallery in the Château La Coste winery

Renzo Piano Building Workshop

In a recondite enclave reached through country roads – in Le Puy-Saint-Réparade, a village in France’s Provence región – is the Château La Coste winery. The landscape of vineyards engages in dialogue with works by architects and artists like Tadao Ando, Jean Nouvel, Jean Prouvé, Louise Bourgeois, Richard Serra, and Ai Wei Wei. Now joining the display of contemporary architecture is the art gallery designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop. The 285-square-meter pavilion is embedded into the valley, six meters deep, in order to integrate into the terrain. Striking a contrast with the concrete walls and glass facades, a roof resembling ships’ sails echoes the rows of grapevines through their slender metal arches. Inside, a 160-square-meter space will be accommodating scupture and photography exhibitions. The rest of the building is used for wine preservation.
