Out in the open now are the winners of the closed competition for the commission to raise on the site of the City-Hof complex, in downtown Hamburg, three buildings with a total of 47,000 square meters for apartments, a 200-room hotel, and offices. The first prize, coming with 80,000 euros, goes to the local firm KPW Papay Warncke. There are two second prizes (40,000 euros each): one for Rafael Moneo of Spain and the other for E2A, the Swiss practice of Piet Eckert and Wim Eckert. Authorization to demolish the building currently standing on the site, a 1950s work of the architect Rudolf Klophaus, has already been requested. Completion of construction is planned for 2022.
