Enmedio Studio (David Moreno and Elena Vilches) have won the competition for the company Kömmerling’s new offices in the industrial park of Camarma de Esteruelas (Madrid). The objective is a building with zero net energy consumption, so in the design, environmental quality prevails over everything else. Two intersecting volumes embrace a plaza on the north of the site, conceived as a large space for welcoming visitors. The two volumes contain the showroom and the work spaces. The latter, facing south, are half-buried and interspersed with courtyards that optimize ventilation and natural lighting. To the north is a band of very protected halls and services. The method used to reach the zero-energy objectives is reflected in the section. The enclosure is executed with a system where structure and insulation are a single element formed by EPS panels with micro-concrete layers installed on both sides, minimizing thermal bridges.
