Palazzo del Cinema, Locarno

AZPML

The firm AZPML, headed by Alejandro Zaera-Polo and Maider Llaguno, has enlarged and renovated the former Palazzo Scolastico as a venue for the film festival of Locarno, in Switzerland’s Canton of Ticino. The main objective of the project was to consolidate the festival’s urban presence at Piazza Remo Rossi. The renovation involved incorporating two volumes that were part of the original structure. The auditoriums are placed in the central courtyard, seating a total of 850. Over these rises the cornice to accommodate the rest of the spaces. The lattice wrapped around this space is made of perforated golden panels that give identity to the complex. AZPML Giorgio Marafioti
