'Lattice of Memory’, by Carmen Moreno Álvarez

When the Spanish Civil War ended, 4,000 people were executed at the walls of the cemetery of Granada. Outside the graveyard – in the Dehesa del Generalife, a green space next to the Alhambra – rises this work of Carmen Moreno Álvarez, a tribute to the victims. On a preexisting stone wall, a 43-meter-long iron lattice bears their names. In a play of shadows, the letters are projected on the ground, turning memory into a living element of the landscape.
