EMBT + ilimelgo, events hall renovation and extension in Romainville
The Barcelona firm Miralles Tagliabue EMBT, in collaboration with the Parisian office Ilimelgo, have won the competition organized by the City of Romainville, in Paris, to renovate and extend an events venue. The proposed design creates a vibrant social atmosphere and transforms the old ‘salle des fêtes’ into an expansion of public space and a meeting point.
From an urban point of view, two strategies stand out. One is renovating the front facade of the existing building in a way that makes it transparent and permeable, so that the ‘salles des fêtes’ becomes a threshold and connection between the public space, the semi-public rear courtyard, and the private halls and work areas. The other strategy is creating a dialogue between the building’s enlargement and the footpath that links Avenue Paul Vailland Courtier to the rear court, unifying the intervention. The two event halls at the center of the site seek to engage with the garden and the landscape, while the new volume concentrates offices and logistical facilities to the east, sirviendo as support for the halls.
