Munich Concert Hall Design Competition

In 2016 the German Federal State of Bavaria organized a competition for two concert halls seating 1,800 and 600, a music school, a restaurant, and offices in Munich’s Eastern neighborhood of Weksviertel, near the Ostbahnhof train station. The aim was to give the city a new auditorium and music and theater center while transforming the area of industrial origins into a culture and art center. The Austrian firm Cukrowicz Nachbaur carried the day over 31 other contestants. Second, third, fourth, and fifth prizes went to PFP Planungs, David Chipperfield Architects, 3XN, and Staab Architekten, respectively, and there were mentions and special recognitions for the entries submitted by Henning Larsen Architects, Zaha Hadid Limited (Zaha Hadid Architects), Mecanoo, and Christ & Gantenbein.
