Headed by Ma Yansong, the Beijing firm MAD has completed ten apartment buildings that mimic the mountain landscape of Huangshan (yellow mountains), in China’s Anhui province. A UNESCO Heritage Site since 1990, the mountain range is known for the beauty of its granite peaks and conifer forests. The residential buildings are inserted into this privileged environment, no two alike and the levels terraced to mirror the surrounding mountains. In a village connected by pathways winding through greenery, the ‘eroded’ contours present expansive balconies with spectacular views.
