Studio MK27, Caledonian Somosaguas Residences

The first work in Spain of the Brazilian firm MK27, headed by Marcio Kogan, is the exclusive residential development Caledonian in Somosaguas, in the Madrid municipality of Pozuelo de Alarcón. With a built area of 5,100 square meters, the commission involved designing the architecture and interiors of 21 one-family dwellings, which come in four types and in sizes ranging between 94 and 230 square meters. In collaboration with Enrique López Granados, Caledonian’s architect and president, Marcio Kogan and Suzana Glogowski of MK27 worked on a modular construction, using a grid that allows numerous variations. Cubic blocks and white walls are interspersed with snaking roads, small squares, and communal garden spots, forming a little village. In each house, the indoors and outdoors fuse by means of glazed ground floors opening on to private patios and yards, while upstairs, opaque walls ensure more privacy. Garages are underground.
