Herzog & de Meuron, Lombard Odier HQ in Bellevue (Switzerland)
The Basel firm Herzog & de Meuron has won the competition to build the new head offices of Lombard Odier, a private Swiss bank founded in 1796, on the shore of Lac Léman in Bellevue, a municipality of the canton of Geneva. The others shortlisted included Bernard Tschumi, Bjarke Ingles Group-BIG, Diener & Diener, Dominique Perrault, Rem Koolhaas-OMA, and the local practice Favre & Guth, which will be collaborating with the winner. With the aim of bringing employees scattered in six Geneva offices together in one place, the new building will provide 2,600 workstations and also an auditorium seating 600. The design shows a building opening on to the surroundings with transparent curved facades punctuated by thin columns, balconies, and exterior galleries. Construction is to begin in 2019, for completion in 2021.
