Behet Bondzio Lin, Association of the Textile Industry in Münster

The firm Behet Bondzio Lin Architekten, headed by the Germans Martin Behet and Roland Bondzio and the Taiwanese Yu-Han Michael Lin, has designed an office building for the Association of the Northwest German Textile and Garment Industry, which represents about 260 companies of the sector.

The new offices are located in the western German city of Münster, in the Loddenheide industrial zone, and the building is direct in addressing the surroundings and the matter of energy efficiency, presenting blind facades to the east, south, and west while opening up northward with a huge glass surface that treats employees to views of the landscape.

Masonry is the unquestionable protagonist in the construction. Parametrically designed with a computer program, 74,000 bricks in six different sizes, manually laid at various rotation angles, form a facade of 1,300 square meters. This simulates a light cloth in motion, inspired in the fabric on the knees of the Beethoven statue sculpted by Max Klinger for the Photography Museum of Leipzig. Both aim for a paradoxical, light, and fluid perception of a stone material.
