Enrique Llatas, donating models with the Marte Foundation

Founder of the architectural firm Llatas and a teacher at the UPC (Peruvian University of Applied Sciences), Enrique Llatas has created the non-profit Fundación Marte with the mission of giving a second life to models after they have served their purpose in academics, and bequeathing them to poor children, who with their imagination and creativity stimulated can reinterpret them and turn them into games, race tracks, dollhouses, or castles for their heroes and heroines.

It all began in 2015 with a Christmas campaign through which thirty models were handed over to the residents of an informal settlement in Lima’s Villa María del Triunfo district. In the wake of the success of this first social project with educational aims, the next year the foundation partnered with the university’s architectural design department for students to develop cardboard shelters as a school assigment, and on the day celebrating Afro-Peruvian culture the children were made to interact and assemble them.

The Christmas campaigns of 2016 and 2017 brought in more and more models thanks to the support of several universities, students, and architects, reaching a total of 600, in actions organized by the NGO Latin American Community of Autism Spectrum, the NGO Native of Peru, and CCAPAC.
