Hotel Morpheus is now in the final phases of construction. Paulo dos Sousa has photographed it, practically finished, showing how it blends into the skyline of the city of Macau from its position on the Cotai isthmus. The project counts a total area of 150,000 square meters and rises forty floor. Aside from 780 bedrooms, the tower contains event venues and a new casino for the old Portuguese colony, where gambling currently generates 80% of the total revenue of the local economy. The rectangular form is extruded as a monolithic block with a series of openings piercing through the center of the volume. The central atrium is divided into two spaces around the vertical circulation cores, where the visible exoskeleton reinforces the dynamic nature of the design.
