Francis Kéré, pavilion for Tipper Rise Art Center in Fishtail (Montana)

Located on the edge of Yellowstone National Park in Montana, with the Beartooth Mountains as backdrop, the Tippet Rise Art Center has announced that a new permanent pavilion, designed by Diébédo Francis Kéré, will be going up on its grounds, joining a set of facilities devoted to music and sculpture among which are some extraordinary pieces that engage in dialogue with the nature around, including monumental sculptures, artistic constructions, and large-scale artworks by Ensamble Studio, Alexander Calder, and Gunnstock Timber Frames.

The architect from Burkina Faso proposes an intimate, secluded space amid the immensity of the natural landscape. Immersed in a forest of poplars, this place for meetings and community gatherings will be built with logs of local pinewood. The construction system is used as much in the roof, which filters incoming sunlight, as in the seating, organized in a way that takes inspiration from abstract microscopic formations. The main volume offers a promenade along various heights that lets visitors enjoy views of the surroundings from above. The pavilion is to be ready to open in the summer of 2019.
