The main building of the old state textile company Intelhorce, raised in the late 1950s by the architect Ramón Vázquez Molezún and the civil engineer Manuel María Valdés, is undergoing renovation to become the new distribution center of the children’s fashion house Mayoral. The strategy applied restores and upgrades the structure of the factory, characterized by prefabricated trusses of reinforced concrete, besides respecting the old volume and the overhead lighting through a sawtooth roof. Based in Málaga and Madrid, the firm System Arquitectura – headed by Rafael Urquiza Sánchez – has designed and executed the project of revitalizing the plant, which includes: an altogether new facade; refurbishing and recladding the sawtooth roof, which was in a bad state; and installing a new loading and unloading dock in the interior space. Shaping the exterior and reducing solar radiation are five sets of panels of glass fiber reinforced concrete, with geometric folds that through a series of combinations make the exterior image of the facade more dynamic, resembling pleated textiles. The premises are to open in mid-2019.
