Aranguren + Gallegos, refurbishment of Palencia courthouse

The Madrid practice of María José Aranguren and José González Gallegos has completely renovated and refurbished Palencia’s provincial courthouse. Their intervention involves two major modifications: the roof and the third floor have given way to a lighter volume clad with a metal lattice, and a large new atrium within the building connects the upper galleries to the main foyer. In addition, with a view to upgrading the preexisting construction, the project fully preserves its four facades all the way up to the cornice level, replaces and improves the window frames, and gives the stone and brick a cleaning and treatment.
