Jorge Mealha, house in Sátão (Portugal)

The objective of the Portuguese practice of Jorge Mealha is to restore and enlarge a house in Sátão, in the Viseu district, the construction for which the client’s father carefully selected the stones. The old dwelling collapsed, and the new project used those same stones and maintained the original positions of the main volume and a well, organizing the program around an entrance court. Both the ground floor containing the communal spaces and the upper level accommodating the bedrooms are organized by a long corridor.
