Mecanoo, villa in Vught (Netherlands)

A work of Mecanoo, the Delft studio led by founding partner Francine Houben, this residence cum cooking school drew inspiration from the traditional Dutch farming hoeve, where constructions are clustered around a central open space. A circular path surrounds three volumes clad up to the roofs in bronze-toned anodized aluminum. A tunnel within a mound connects the two that are living quarters. Each building has a a cross-laminated timber structure and firwood interior panels. The windows are mindfully positioned to frame views of the landscape.
