Ayllón Paradela De Andrés, Interpretation Center at the Royal Walls of Ceuta

For a project titled ‘Resiliente’ the Madrid practice of Javier Alejo Hernández Ayllón, Verónica Paradela Pernas, and Javier de Andrés de Vicente won the open competition – organized by Spanish Public Works Ministry – to build an interpretation center at one of the bastions – specifically the Baluarte de la Bandera – and in the annexed vaults of the Royal Walls of Ceuta.

In the superposition of different time layers, restoration means bringing back the original volume and shape of each vault by eliminating unnecessary additions, while original pieces are restored. Renovation will involve re-doing the voids arising from the disappearance of old materials, to be replaced by contemporary and neutral ones.
