House in Hampshire

AMPS

The firm AMPS, based in Madrid and London, designed this house beside the prime residence of the owners of a farm in Hampshire County, for use by friends and relatives visiting for long periods of time. Inserted into the English countryside, it reinterprets the barns of local tradition, with its pitched roof and wood stained black with tar. Prefabricated CLT panels are incorporated into the structure, as are photovoltaic energy, geothermal, and water purification systems.

In contrast to the dark exteriors, the interiors present the light color tones of chestnut wood and are naturally lit from above by skylights. The rooms spill outside thanks to doors that slide into the walls and disappear.
