In the Alcorta campus of Torcuato Di Tella University stands the mixed-use Sáenz Valiente Building, with its austere, modular expressivity. This work by the Catalan practice of Josep Ferrando has been shortlisted in the international section of the 2020 FAD Awards.
The concrete structure is formed by a sequence of transversal porticos that rhythmically traverse the building's 60-meter length. The ascending organization is tripartite. Encompassing 15,000 square meters, the building becomes lighter on the facade towards the ground, and solidifies as it rises, in correspondence with the longitudinal arrangement of the interiors. The number of structural supports triples and doubles in accordance with the special needs of the uses required on each level. The design frees up the floor plan combining spatial specificity and versatility on its scale of repetition. With commercial units on the ground floor, classrooms in the middle level, and offices at the top, the volume is crowned with a terrace offering city views.
