At kilometer 193 of the N260, which connects Bellver de Cerdanya to Isòvol, stands this house prefabricated at low cost to both the environment and the pocket. A work of Ágora Arquitectura, a Barcelona firm headed by Joan Casals Pañella and José Luis Cisneros Bardolet, it has been shortlisted in the architecture section of the 2020 FAD Awards.
The 7.5×4.5×3-meter prism rises on a small plot in a camping area of the Catalan Pyrenees, at the confluence of the rivers Duran and Segre. Respecting the surroundings, the light and dry-build construction is raised over the ground by means of a line of concrete blocks, seeking to minimize energy need and consumption by means of various passive strategies.
The outermost layer presents a 60×60mm tubular structure composed of 1.5×1.5m modules that form two horizontal planes set 3 meters apart by twelve 60×60mm pillars. The lower horizontal plane doubles the structure longitudinally, making it easy for the system to be lifted and transported elsewhere. The upper one doubles it transversally, taking snow overloads into account. The combination of expanded cork on the facade and plywood boards in the interior walling makes for thick thermal and acoustic protection. The roof is made impermeable by a continuous rubber membrane.
The dwelling is divided into three parts. Up front is the shared space, with the living room and kitchen, opening out to the exterior by means of three sliding doors equipped with roller blinds. The central part is a strip of services. And behind are two bedrooms and storage.
