Retractable roof for Suzanne Lenglen tennis court

Dominique Perrault Architecture

Dominique Perrault Architecture (DPA) has won the competition to cover the tennis court named after the French champion Suzanne Lenglen at Stade Roland Garros, the complex that hosts the French Open. Over a concrete structure and the ensemble of steel elements, a pleated polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane is made of a succession of 21 modules, each one approximately 5 meters wide and 44 long. When the roof unfolds horizontally from south to north, the cables tense up to absorb rain and wind loads. Construction work is programmed for completion in 2024.
