Toyo Ito, Praemium Imperiale

La Casa Imperial Japonesa y la Japan Art Association otorgan cada año, desde 1989, el Praemium Imperiale, dotado con 15 millones de yenes —132.000 euros—, a cinco artistas en las categorías de pintura, escultura, arquitectura, música, y cine o teatro. Los galardonados en 2010 han sido, por ese orden, Enrico Castellani, Rebecca Horn, Toyo Ito, Maurizio Pollini y Sophia Loren. Toyo Ito, japonés nacido en Seúl, Corea, en 1941, es autor de la Mediateca de Sendai o la Biblioteca de la Universidad de Arte de Tama. Después de Tange, Ando, Maki y Taniguchi, es el quinto arquitecto nipón que recibe el premio.
