With their proposal ‘Maridaje’ (marriage or connection), the young Madrid-based architects Isabel Rivas and Javier Ureña have won the call for ideas Landscape, Architecture & Wine, organized by Arquideas and the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (wine company of northern Spain). The project is inserted in the landscape of La Rioja shaping the terrain in order to define the building in keeping with the program. Its site, along the riverbed, allows collecting water runoff that is channelled to a central pond to be used later for irrigation. The closed spaces are buried and the roofs covered with the different types of vine from the region. The facade consists of pine wood slats separated at different intervals depending on the orientation and quality of the views.
