Eduardo Souto de Moura, Wolf Prize 2013

The Wolf Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Israel, has since 1978 bestowed awards on scientists in five sections – Agriculture, Chemistry, Mathematics, Medicine and Physics –, and one to artists, alternating among Architecture, Music, Painting and Sculpture. In the Arts category this year’s prize has gone to the Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, lauded by the jury for his capacity to integrate buildings into the natural environment and for his great talent as a designer. Each with an endowment of US$100,000, the prizes are given yearly to acknowledge achievements made in the interest of humanity and the fraternal ties between nations. Previous Wolf laureates include Jørn Utzon, Fumihiko Maki, Álvaro Siza, Jean Nouvel, Peter Eisenman and David Chipperfield.
