Five finalists for the 2013 Mies van der Rohe Award

Out of 335 works in 37 European countries, the European Commission and the Mies van der Rohe Foundation have revealed the five finalists for the Mies Award of 2013: the City Hall of Ghent (Belgium) by Robbrect & Daen with Marie-José Van Hee, the Superkilen urban park in Copenhagen by BIG with Topotek 1 and Superflex, the Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik by Henning Larden with Olafur Eliasson and Batteriid Architects, the house for elderly people in Alcácer do Sal (Portugal) by Aires Mateus and the Metropol Parasol in Seville by Jurgen Mayer. The jury is chaired by Wiel Arets and includes Pedro Gadanho, Antón García-Abril, Louisa Hutton, Kent Martinussen, Frédéric Migaryou, Ewa Porębska and Giovanna Carnevali. The winner of the award, endowed with 60,000 euros, and the Emerging Architect Special Mention will be announced at the start of May, and the prize-giving ceremony is set to take place on 6th June at Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona.
