The Spanish architect Rafael Moneo has been elected Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, among the most prestigious artistic institutions in the United States, whose purpose is to foster and sustain interest in Literature, Music, and the Fine Arts by identifying and encouraging individual artists. Located in New York City, the Academy maintains a membership of 250 consisting of American architects, composers, artists and writers. A foreign honorary roster of 75 was added in 1929, elected by the Academicians. Álvaro Siza, Rem Koolhaas and Norman Foster are some of the non-American architects currently on this list.
