Three first prizes to renovate Hotel Königshof in Munich

The Spanish studio Nieto Sobejano – with offices in Madrid and Berlin – and two German firms, Sauerbruch Hutton and Wandel Hoefer Lorch, have won first prize in the competition to renovate the five-star Hotel Königshof in Munich. Located in the Bavarian capital’s central Karlsplatz, the hotel was bought in 1938 by the Geisel family, which over seven decades later organized this competition by invitation where other nine teams presented their proposals, among them five from Germany – Hild y K, Meck, Lederer+Ragnarsdóttir+ Oei, Kuehn Malvezzi, and Léon Wohlhage Wernik –; another from Spain, Rafael Moneo; RAPP+RAPP from the Netherlands, Manuel Herz from Switzerland, and O&O Baukunst from Austria. The family enterprise Geisel Privathotels will assess the three winning designs and decide which one to carry out.
