Madrid: ‘Photography and Modern Architecture in Spain, 1925-1965’

On show up to 7 September at the ICO Museum is ‘Photography and Modern Architecture in Spain, 1925–1954’. Curated by Iñaki Bergera, it is part of the PHotoEspaña 2010 festival and gathers over 250 images taken in the course of more than four decades by close to forty photographers, including Català-Roca, Pando, Kindel, Paco Gómez, Schommer, Muller, Férriz, Luis Lladó, and Margaret Michaelism. The exhibition documents buildings by architects like José Manuel Aizpúrua, Josep Lluís Sert, Alejandro de la Sota, Miguel Fisac, José Antonio Coderch, Francisco Javier Sáenz de Oíza, Javier Carvajal, or Fernando Higueras. The selection of pictures illustrates the chronological diversity of typologies, episodes, architects, and photographers, inviting us to reflect on how photography captured and helped disseminate the image of Spanish architecture of the Modern Movement.
