David Chipperfield’s Valentino store opens in New York

The new flagship store of the fashion house Valentino has opened on Fifth Avenue in New York. Occupying an old building raised by John Burgee and Philip Johnson for Takashimaya Department Store, the new shop – designed by David Chipperfield – adds a facade in aluminum and dark steel rising eight floors. Gray Palladiana Terrazzo clads surfaces throughout the interior, which features a monumental atrium and a sculptural, angular staircase that becomes a series of ramps connecting the levels.
