A partner in the Sevillian office Lugadero, Pablo Sendra Fernández, has won the international ideas competition that was called for the purpose of regenerating the center of Wimbledon, the urban area of London located 11 kilometers from the heart of the British capital. Selected out of 29 finalists and awarded 3,000 Sterling pounds (close to 3,800 euros), Sendra’s winning master plan is titled ‘Play Wimbledon’. Incorporating escalators, giant slides, outdoor theaters, and interactive games, the design is inspired in Aldo van Eyck’s urban transformation of Amsterdam’s urban fabric after World War II, turning abandoned zones into parks.
