Alejandro Soffia and Gabriel Rudolphy are the authors of Hostal Ritoque, located on the beach of the same name, in Quintero, Valparaíso province. Working on a low budget, the Chilean architects chose to use local building techniques and materials in raising five pinewood volumes on pilotis. The standard measurement of the wood determines the proportions of the structures, which in adapting to the steep slope of the terrain make the blocks vary in height, some rising just one floor and others two. Seeking the best views of the sea, the independent modules set back their enclosures to make room for balconies.
