Two enrolled at the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM) have won the ‘Macro Architecture’ section of the thirteenth ‘Textile Structures for New Building’  competition for students organized by Techtextil, the international fair held in Frankfurt that showcases high-tech fabrics and smart textiles. The jury chaired by Marijke Mollaert decided to give first prize to the entry ‘Aviary at Bujalcayado, Guadalajara’ by Leyre Mauleón Pérez, a shelter for different bird species amid abandoned constructions in Sigüenza, built with tautened structures woven with optic fiber. Second prize went to ‘Cytomorphic Mutations’ by Francisco López Sánchez, which wraps buildings of the Madrid’s Barrio del Pilar neighbourhood with a translucent textile skin. Techtextil
