Launch of ‘Spanish Pavilion’ book in Berlin

Cosentino
22/10/2015

Pabellón de España/Spanish Pavilion will be launched on 28 October at the Spanish Embassy in Berlin. This book offers a detailed analysis of the building designed by the Barcelona-based practice b720 for Expo Milano 2015: two slender parallel sheds whose material contrast symbolizes the dialogue between tradition and innovation. Edited by Arquitectura Viva and with the collaboration of Cosentino, the volume takes stock, through critical texts by Fulvio Irace, Richard Ingersoll, and Luis Fernández-Galiano, of the essential elements that defined the pavilion from the outset. An editorial itinerary, bilingual Spanish-English, covers the general Expo context – with the close to one hundred pavilions gathered in Milan under the motto ‘Feeding the Planet. Energy for Life’; the design and construction process, with the contribution of the pavilion’s authors; and the completed building, describing the programs and exhibition contents, as well as the main guidelines of the architectural design, such as the use of materials, sustainability, and the pavilion’s role as representative of Spain in an International Expo. Finally, an interview conducted by Eduardo Prieto with the founder of b720, Fermín Vázquez, expounds on the studio’s profile and its view of architecture as a “complex discipline where design and social responsibility, and also timeframes and budgets, matter in equal parts.”
