Gonzalez Hinz Zabala, Bauhaus Museum in Dessau

The Barcelona team of Robert González, Anne Katharina Hinz, and José Zabala has ultimately carried the day over the New York firm Young & Ayata in the competition to build the new Bauhaus Museum in a central park of the eastern German city of Dessau. With an execution budget of 25 million euros, the new 3,500-meter-complex will contain 40,000 works in a structure shaped like a bridge, suspended over a permeable public space that will serve as a venue for temporary exhibitions and other events. Wrapped with an external structural frame, the upper opacity of which strikes a contrast with the transparency of the ground level, the bold rectangular and glazed volume is inserted into the neighborhood to be developed by the landscape architect Roser Vives de Delás. Opening is scheduled for 2019, centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus school.
