Arquitectura - G, renovation of a ‘masía’ in Empordà

The firm Barcelona Arquitectura – G has renovated a farmhouse in the Empordà area of Catalonia’s Girona province. Situated amid fruit orchards, the three-story masía contained a disorderly alternation of agricultural and domestic spaces as a result of several enlargements. The labyrinthine character of the dwelling is enhanced with a new circulation scheme that eliminates partitions and makes the 900-square-meter building easier to use. Besides the existing courtyard at ground level, there is now a patio on the second floor. The rooms exalt the sobriety of naked stone and white surfaces, combined with the burgundy of metal profiles and the brown of the glazed tiles that clad the built-in furniture. The old floors have been restored, using the original ceramic of reddish tones.
