Winners of the Island of Arts (IOA) Venice competition

Organized by Arquideas, the international competition called Island of Arts Venice, open to students and new graduates of architecture, drew 142 proposals from thirty countries. Venice is built on an archipelago of 118 islets connected by 455 bridges. The brief involved a a venue for a variety of cultural events in one or more locations of the Italian city – between St. Mark’s Square and Memorial Park. The jury – including the Spaniards Fernanda Canales, Iñaqui Carnicero, and Ricardo Flores – has awarded first prize to Eduardo Cilleruelo Terán (Universidad de Alcalá, Spain), second to Alejandro Varangot and Sebastián Amorelli (Universidad ORT, Uruguay), and third to Felipe Tejeda (Northeastern University, Chile). Honorable mentions have gone to: Juliana Katayama, Leandra Miyasaka, and Caio Franca Santos (Escola da Cidade, Brazil); Andrés Pinzón, Rafael Ricardo Rodríguez Morales and Ana María Jiménez Sánchez (Universidad de La Salle, Colombia); Arnaud Paquier and Clara Rubin (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland); Eugene Ong and Yanling Deng (Columbia University, United States); and Luis Miguel Sánchez García (Univerisad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain).

is the third member of the AV family: a bilingual publication essentially focussed on design projects (with special attention on competitions and construction details), heretofore only laterally dealt with in the other two magazines.
