Herzog & de Meuron to build Museum of the 20th Century

Selected out of 42 candidates, the proposal of the team formed by the Basel firm Herzog & de Meuron and the Zurich-based landscape architects of Vogt Landschaftarchitekten has been named the winner of the competition for the ‘Neue Nationalgalerie/Museum of the 20th Century’ at Berlin’s Kulturforum. The jury has given second prize to Lundgaard & Tranberg Arkiteker of Copenhagen, which teamed up with the landscape architecture office SCHØNHERR, also based in the Danish capital. Third prize went to Bruno Fioretti Marquez Architekten, working from Berlin, in collaboration with Capatti Satubach Landschaftsarchitekten. Special mentions fell upon four projects by: Rem Koolhaas / OMA with Inside Outside; Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa / SANAA with Bas Smets; Staab Architekten with Levin Monsigny; and Aires Mateus with PROAP.
