The National Museum in Szczecin (Poland), an underground building by Robert Konieczny / KWK Promes, was named the ‘World Building of the Year’ in the latest WAF (World Architecture Festival), held from 16 to 18 November in Berlin. The jury – among whose members were Emre Arolat, David Chipperfield, Louisa Hutton, and Ole Scheeren – gave the ‘Future Project of the Year’ award to the South Melbourne Primary School in Melbourne (Australia), by Hayball; the ‘INSIDE World Interior of the Year’ to the Heike store in Hangzhou (China), by Shanwei Weng & Jiadie Yuan/Hangzhou AN Interior Design; and the ‘Landscape of the Year’ to the Kopupaka Reserve in Auckland (New Zealand), by Isthmus. Some Spanish works were awarded in other sections: for schools, the German School in Madrid, by Grüntuck Ernst Architekten; for civic and community buildings, the Salburua Civic Center in Vitoria, by IDOM; for houses, House MM in Palma de Mallorca, by OHLAB / Oliver Hernaiz Lab.
