The Dutch firm of Rem Koolhaas has completed the complex for exhibitions and events in Shanghai’s Lujiazui financial district, on the banks of the Huangpu River. The volume uses the ramp of an old shipyard. With a built area of 1,500 square meters, it shows its steel structure clad with metallic mesh, striking up a dialogue with the industrial past of the site. Besides indoor exhibiion galleries – tucked under the ramp and the elevated box – there are outdoor venues for events and a covered plaza underneath the cantilever.
