El Petit Comte Nursery, Besalú (project stage)

Besalú, a town of rich medieval history, is approximately 25 kilometers from Olot, between the Fluviá and the Capellades rivers. The site for the nursery is on the border between the town and the countryside, separated by a filter of PVC cylinders of different colors, rotating on their axis. The skin of cylinders is not bound, however, by this facade, but rather covers the whole building as a porous and colorist fence. This first filter leads to a large playground and, next, to a new row of cylinders – this time with enough separation between one another to let children pass between them –, a covered recess area, the main volume with the classrooms, a band of restrooms and, finally, a multipurpose space. In this way, the nursery can be viewed as a sequence of spaces parallel to one another, separated by more or less transparent surfaces, from the more public to the more private ones.

The auxiliary facilities wrap around the central courtyard:?on one side, two long halls with the bedrooms and, on the other, the access – preceded by a ramp and flanked by the multiuse hall and by an area for installations –, the lobby, the kitchen – ventilated through a courtyard – and the administration offices.
